This Item is an 1868 $3.00 "Liberty" Gold Piece. Designed by James B. Longacre there were only 4,875 of these coins minted in 1868. They were unpopular in their day which led to little demand. Because of the low quantity struck each year they are considered to be Very Scarce today. This particular coin was found in a chicken coop in Lowell, Mass. in 1919 and has been out of circulation since that time. A local jeweler graded it as being in Mint condition in 1979. Condition: There is very slight, if any wear on high points both Obverse & Reverse & All Details show. I'm no expert but I'd say it will probably grade out Very High. Price: $3875.00 plus Shipping & Insurance.
